As part of the transition of services from Belgravia Leisure to the Shire of Merredin (the Shire), the Merredin Regional Community and Leisure Centre (MRCLC) will be temporarily closed for a one-week period starting Friday, 29 September 2023, to undertake a deep clean and essential maintenance of the facility.
This closure aims to leverage off the quiet school holiday period and will allow for thorough cleaning and minor repairs of the hydrotherapy pool, commercial kitchen, change rooms and sports courts, along with equipment servicing of the centre.
Additionally, the hydrotherapy pool will also be closed from Tuesday, 26 September 2023 onwards, for repairs and maintenance. While the Shire aims to complete these specific works within a two-week time period, and reopen in the week commencing 9 October, further updates on the timeframe will be provided once the works are underway.
The Shire’s Chief Executive Officer Lisa Clack said that she appreciates the willingness of local contractors to assist in a block of dedicated time to complete the works and minimise the disruption to our sporting community.
“This suite of essential servicing, maintenance and updates of the MRCLC are essential to ensure the centre is operating at its best from the time of takeover,” she said.
“We are already making progress on several fronts, including the replacement of systems in the hydrotherapy pool and updates to some exterior surfaces of the centre.”
It is important to note that during this transition period, some services may be limited either due to matters outside the Shire’s control such as transfer of licences, or limited staffing, while the Shire recruits for various positions within the MRCLC.
It is anticipated that the MRCLC will reopen from Monday, 9 October 2023, however, full Bar and Restaurant services will be unavailable for the short term, and a date for the reopening of these has not been determined. The Shire will continue to work with sporting clubs who have events planned to offer alternative options that accommodate each club's needs.
