Vehicle Licensing

Council provides a licensing service through the Department of Transport and vehicle licensing is carried out at the Shire of Merredin Administration Centre located at Corner King & Barrack Streets, Merredin. Office hours for this service are 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

*Please note: cut off times for theory or hazard perception tests is 3:45pm.

License renewals and transfers for cars, motorcycles, mopeds, caravans, trailers, buses, trucks, road trains, tractors, mobile cranes, forklifts, earthmovers, mobile farm implements and other vehicles can be processed. Permits for unlicensed vehicles, boat registration transfers and renewals are also able to be processed. However, the Shire is unable to answer any queries in relation to boat registrations.  These queries will need to be directed to Marine Safety on 1300 863 308.

Drivers licence testing is also available which include, Computer Theory Test (CTT), Hazard Perception Test (HPT), and the Practical Driving Assessment (PDA). Bookings are essential for all Practical Driver’s Licence Assessments and we advise that there is, at times, an extensive waiting list, so booking in advance is highly recommended. Merredin has two assessment days each month held on Wednesdays.

Vehicle Examination Centres

Please remember though that if your vehicle is currently not licenced you will be required to obtain a temporary permit prior to driving your vehicle. (These can be obtained from the Shire of Merredin).

Light Vehicle inspections can be carried out by contacting Merredin Carr Care (Gary Carr) on 9041 1008 and Heavy Vehicles inspections can be carried out by contacting Ross' Diesel Services on 9041 2337.

Alternatively, vehicle examinations can be conducted in Kellerberrin, Bruce Rock and Corrigin by contacting their respective Shire Offices.
