Western Power Network Upgrades

The following information is being shared on behalf of Western Power.

What is happening?

Our crews are working on electricity network upgrade and maintenance within in the Merredin townsite. This involves replacement of 159 poles and 12kms of overhead powerlines.  The upgrade is focused on improving network reliability, maintaining high standards of safety, and enhancing network resilience to major weather events.

Where is this happening?

We are working across the townsite of Merredin. Please refer to the map below for an overview of the work areas.

When is this happening?

Work is set to be completed over two stages:

  • Stage 1 - October to December 2022 – Crews replaced 130 poles and 4.5kms of powerlines during stage 1 last year.
  • Stage 2 - April 2023 to June 2023- This stage involves replacement of remaining 20% of poles and 60% of overhead power lines.

We will generally be working from Monday to Sunday between 7:00am and 6:00pm, customers impacted by power outages will be advised of specific outage times via advanced notifications.

How will this impact me?

In order to complete the work safely, the work needs to be carried out on de-energised lines. This means that power outages will be required and given the volume of work, unfortunately some customers will be impacted by multiple outages.

  • Customers will be notified a minimum of three business days (but typically up to 9 business days) prior to an outage that interrupts power supply.
  • These notifications are sent to primary account holder only. Please forward to anyone else who may be impacted by the planned outage, i.e. tenants.
  • We are aiming to keep any disruption to a minimum, residents may notice dust, noise and excavation work where the pole replacement are being undertaken.
  • Traffic management will be in place where required.
  • We will notify if we need to access an individual’s property.

Our crews are working closely with the Shire of Merredin to keep disruptions to a minimum.
