As we approach the festive season, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredible year for our Shire. 2024 has been a year of growth, achievement, and positive change, and I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished together as a team.
From the completion of the multi-million-dollar Apex Park and Town Centre redevelopments, to delivering our new E-Waste Facility, and commencing our Business Sundowners to support local business, we’ve made significant strides in delivering outstanding outcomes for our community this year. We’ve also been recognised as one of the top 20 Local Governments in the state for our 2022/23 Audit, as well as receiving a 10-Year Waterwise Council Award, a testament to the dedication and hard-work of the Shire staff.
As we look ahead to 2025, we have much to look forward to, including the continuation of important projects like the Crooks Road upgrade, the completion of the Water Tower restoration, and important surface replacements at the MRCLC. We look forward to building on the successes of 2024 and laying the foundation for an exciting future for our Shire.
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the hard-working staff at the Shire of Merredin. Their dedication, commitment, and tireless efforts have been integral to the progress we’ve made this year. From those working behind the scenes to those braving challenging conditions, including 40-degree heat, to maintain our infrastructure and public spaces, every team member plays a vital role. Our staff’s resilience and unwavering dedication are truly valued and their efforts do not go unnoticed.
I would also like to express my thanks to our community for your continued support in driving our important projects forward. As your Shire President, I deeply appreciate your commitment to making our Shire a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
This festive season is a time to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with loved ones. On behalf of the Shire of Merredin Council, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2025 bring you happiness, good health, and continued success.
Donna Crook
Shire President
