The eagerly awaited transformation of Apex Park has reached an exciting milestone, as it enters its fourth month of construction. Substantial advancements have meant that the project has now entered the next phase of works, including the imminent completion of the highly anticipated Skate Park, as well as the installation of more than 20 play elements and extensive landscaping that will breathe new life into this highly valued community space.
Thanks to generous funding from Lotterywest, the Skate Park is currently undergoing a full rebuild. The revamped space will include features such as a learn-to-skate area, half pipe, and a skate bowl, among other elements, offering a next-level skating experience.
Shire President Mark McKenzie expressed the sentiment shared by many in the Merredin community, highlighting the Skate Park's pivotal role in the park's redevelopment.
“We can now see the design of the park, specifically the skate park, really coming to life, a testament to the collective vision and determination of our Council and community,” remarked the Shire President.
“It's not just about ramps and rails; it's about creating a vibrant hub where the community can come together, learn, and enjoy the space.”
In addition to the skate park, the majority of the concrete footpaths have been poured this month, weaving seamlessly throughout the park to provide convenient access and connectivity for all. These pathways showcase sections of exposed aggregate, serving as distinctive visual accents that will mirror the aesthetic of the redeveloped Town Centre when complete.
Daniel Hay-Hendry, the Project Manager for the CBD Redevelopment, expressed his delight at the progress made despite the challenges posed over the last couple of years due to market fluctuations and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After years of collaboration and planning, it's immensely gratifying to witness the fruition of a design that celebrates Merredin's unique natural history and beauty," commented Mr. Hay-Hendry.
